How do Solar Lentigines Develop?

Solar lentigines (Solar Lentigo) are primarily caused by UV exposure and skin aging,

appearing as flat, brown pigmented lesions. They result from excessive activation of melanocytes, leading to a high accumulation of pigment in specific areas.

This describes the condition. With continuous exposure to UV radiation, melanin production continues, and as one ages,

the skin's regenerative capacity and pigment processing ability decrease, causing them to gradually become darker and spread wider. They primarily appear on the face, back of the hands, and arms, with borders that are

typically clear and dark brown.


Distribution of Lentigines

Lentigines (solar lentigines) primarily

appear mainly in the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin),

where melanocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis become excessively activated by UV radiation, causing melanin pigment to

accumulate intensely in specific areas. Histological examination reveals that lentigines do not penetrate deep into the dermis; instead, excessive melanin is

accumulated within the epidermal layer, and they are characterized by a clear demarcation from the surrounding normal skin tissue.

Due to these characteristics, a 755nm laser is suitable for targeting pigments in the epidermis and upper dermis,

and good response to long-pulsed Alexandrite laser treatment can be expected. Conversely, deep dermal

melasma or complex pigmented lesions require a different treatment approach.


Characteristics of the 755nm Wavelength

The 755nm wavelength is effectively absorbed by melanin pigment and is an Alexandrite laser wavelength that can safely reach the entire epidermal layer and the upper dermal layer.

The 755nm laser, delivered in a long-pulsed mode, precisely controls and delivers energy to the pigmented areas in millisecond (ms) units. Melanocytes selectively absorb this light energy and convert it into heat, helping to gently break down pigment
